Understanding emotional development in adolescence

Thursday 17 October 2019, 6.00pm-8.00pm at Bourne End E-ACT Academy

Feelings of uncertainty and anxiety about the future are natural during times of change.

Change can be particularly tough on children, especially change as big as the move up to secondary school.

During this time children are also experiencing and trying to manage many changes within themselves.

As a parent or teacher, it can be difficult to know how best to support the young people in our lives through these challenging periods.

This session is designed to give you the tools you need to help your children maximise their potential for learning.

EVENT programme

A practical discussion

We are going to explore:

  • The different types of stress that children experience and how it can motivate them or hinder their learning.
  • The parts of the brain that haven’t yet matured and how this impacts on how our children feel.
  • The behaviours of our children during this period of their development.

There will also be a question and answer session, a student panel and the opportunity to share your experiences.

Meet our speakers

Alongside academy staff and parents, our guest speaker is Lucy Gleeson, a psychotherapist, coach and facilitator.

Lucy runs a private practice in Marlow and has given talks at schools, helping parents to support their children through change.
